The plates consist of a transparent thermoplastic as matrix (acrylic) and various reinforcement combinations of polyester, polyamide and glass or carbon fiber. The advantages lie in the respective combination of the different types of reinforcement: woven, scrim and knitted. In knitted fabrics, for example, the continuous fibers are arranged in stitches. Each individual mesh is a more or less tight fiber loop that can be stretched or compressed. It can therefore absorb tensile, compressive and transverse stresses, which results in the special forming behavior of the material. In woven fabrics and scrims, on the other hand, the reinforcing fibers are in a stretched state. They therefore show less elongation under tensile stress than knitted fabrics and therefore have high tensile strength and stiffness. When using stretched knitted fabric, both material properties come into play.
